Behind the scenes

Bringing back the good vibe.

Paperwork! It's what me and my husband are doing for a good part of our days and evenings - taxes, the house in Quebec to manage, the new house in California, legal documents - you name it. Everything is going pretty fast: we receive emails, print, read, re-read, sign, scan and buy a new scanner because ours decided to die now (of course), send back, call on the phone, go to the Bank, cross the Border and then we do it again. While this is going on I have assignments to deliver and the kids are still very much alive and always ready to play, isn't it! De la paperasse! Ça constitue une bonne...

New horizons

photo

So, we are leaving California today and heading back home to Toronto. Soon "home" will be here, though...yup! My husband got a new job close to Sacramento. We were all here this last weekend to visit friends in the area (makes for a better strategic "sale" to my oldest son) and to visit houses. It was a pretty interesting trip! My husband starts work in two weeks. The kids and I will move when we have a definite place to stay. That could mean weeks or months before we can all be together again. *sigh* When the real physical move happens, there will be a down period, but, so far, I will continue...

Busy times!

Phew, I am getting behind on my blog...busy times! I hope you had a great long Easter weekend. We did enjoy our days off with my hubby's family visiting for 3 days. They were really happy to spend time with the boys; they're growing up quick! Now about work-- if you haven't read it already on my Facebook page, I've been admitted to the Poppytalk handmade market. The market is a (...) monthly online arts and crafts market curated by Poppytalk to showcase, buy and sell handmade goods of emerging design talent from around the world. If you don't know this website and blog, I invite you to go and visit--very...

Like I am in a fog.

I like mornings—especially like today; the sun is bright, the sky is all blue, and the birds are singing. Even though it's a little chilly outside, my window is open so, I can smell fresh air and hear those birds' melodies... BUT— Yes, there is a “but.” I need to be honest here: I have to fight almost every morning. I mean, I don't have a disease—nothing that dramatic thankfully, but by nature, I am not a morning person. Don't get me wrong; I'm happy and always anxious to get back to my work—most of the time because I have fallen asleep on new ideas and because I have so much I want...

Birthday party: checked!

_MG_1952

I feel lucky to do what I do: working at a craft related job. It doesn't feel like work, how lovely is that! My boundaries between my personal life and work are pretty fuzzy and it seems that creativity tends to blossom. One activity inspires another. From one idea, I jump to something else and then it sparks another one. Totally ADD symptomatic but fortunately it turns out well. I think ;)  But for this to happens, I have to feed my mind and let it meanders. I read that once, can't remember where but it's originally from Tolkien of The Lord of the Rings, and that's how I picture my thoughts sometimes:...

Change of plan

O&A

Working from home does not make for a perfect life. In fact, I'd say that this is not nearly as terrific as some might think. Earnings are inconsistent--sometimes non-existent. I do not take naps during the day, although I could use them; I am not magnetically pulled to my refrigerator every hour, and I don't watch television during the day. Generally, I only take 10 to 15 minutes for lunch, in front of my computer. Sometimes, I get the chance to go out for coffee with a friend or to have a cozy lunch in a restaurant on a Friday. Most days though, between morning and dinnertime, my mouth only manages...

Do you enjoy solitude?

KitchenCollection-making

I haven't posted last Wednesday. Mea culpa. I was totally focused at making and putting online a new collection: kitchen accessories!.* Proofs in the pictures below. This led me to realize that in order to be able to create, keep my mojo and be happy, I need to be secluded. Spending all my working days (sometimes all week) alone without talking to no one might feel scary to some but I just love it (in case you haven't realized yet how weird I am, now you know!).  I need to cut myself off of the world somehow for a few hours in the day. This week-- that have started pretty strong with...

Kitchen collection on his way…

_MG_1433

This week I'm working with manufacturers on a new hose reel design and on graphic stuff. I'm back at sketching by hands (and it's good!) and doing 3D CAD! That does not however, prevent me from designing a new kitchen collection. You know, on my spare time? (...). I am very anxious to put all this online but I still need to finalize a few details before I am fully satisfied. I do my prototypes with an image that some of you are becoming familiar but I plan to include new photos. Yes! Cette semaine je travaille sur un projet de dévidoir pour un client manufacturier ainsi que sur un projet de graphisme...

Today's behind the scene should have been a picture of me running instead of walking, trying to get everything ready before I leave early tomorrow morning. There is so much to do (so much I WANT to do)!. I'll be flying to my hometown, Quebec City, for a few days. Kids are staying at home with their dad (with a little extra help from our nanny ;). It's my annual ski trip-- Yes indeed! ----- Mon billet des coulisses d'aujourd'hui aurait dû être une photo de moi qui courait au lieu de marcher, essayant de tout régler avant mon départ demain matin. Il y a tellement à faire...

For the love of colors: Valentine’s pencils

_MG_1204

Today’s behind the scene: preparing little Valentine’s goodies for A’s classmates.  Although I know, I know, I should be working on my new designs and preparing the improvised upcoming family getaway to Victoria, B.C., I couldn’t resist making a little something. Influenced by an image I saw on Babble.com: 25 Valentine’s Day Gifts to Sew For Your Little Guy (the red felt heart), I came up with a twist that would use my tools, expertise and that A could participate in a way (his signed drawing was printed on one side of the heart; he chose every pencil color; and he've put in the chocolates). Although...
